Der er nok ikke mange musikglade danskere, der ikke kender eller bruger, måske har brugt streamingtjenesten Spotify. Med mere end 340 millioner brugere på verdensplan, er det da også den største musiktjeneste der er, alt efter hvordan man regner Apples med. Målt på månedlige brugere, er Spotify næsten 150 millioner brugere større end Netflix, der er den største inden for serier og film. De to tjenester koster mere eller mindre det samme at bruge, lige omkring 99 kroner om måneden (her i landet).

 

Der er dog en meget stor forskel i hvor god forretning det er, at drive de to. For hvor Netflix for et par uger siden præsenterede sit regnskab, var det godt nok med en lille nedgang, men stadig med et overskud på 542 milioner dollars. Og Netflix har mere eller mindre altid givet overskud. Der har Spotify været i den modsatte båd, og mere eller mindre altid givet underskud – 2020 er ingen undtagelse. Som du kan læse her så forventer Spotify et underskud på mellem 200 og 300 millioner dollars for 2021, på trods af de omsætter for over 9 milliarder dollars.

 

Netflix har den åbenlyse fordel, at de ikke giver noget ved dørene. Hvor man gratis kan lytte med ved Spotify, hvis man kan leve med reklamerne, er der kun Netflix indhold, hvis man betaler for det. Ud af Spotifys godt 345 millioner kunder, er det således under 150 millioner, der rent faktisk betaler for at bruge det, hvilket regnskabet gang med gang lider under.

 

Samtidig er det heller ikke nogen god forretning for Spotify, hvis deres brugere er FOR glade for musik. De betaler pr. Afspilning, så jo mere musik der høres, jo mindre tjener de i sagens natur også. De vil med andre ord sandsynligvis gerne have fat i nogle såkaldte spøgelseskunder – kunder der har et abonnement, men glemmer at bruge det.
