Brug kun udendørs lyskæder

Nogle lyskæder egner sig kun til indendørs brug, imens andre også egner sig til udendørs brug. Når du skal ud at købe lyskæder, skal du altså se godt efter, om lyskæden egner sig til udendørs brug. Det skal gerne stå på emballagen. Hvis du kommer til at bruge en lyskæde, der kun er beregnet til indendørs brug, så kan der trænge fugt ind i den og den kan kortslutte, hvorimod lyskæder til udendørs brug er mere robuste og kan modstå alt fra fugt og frost til kraftigt vejr.

Vælg LED-lys

LED-lys bruger let 75 % mindre strøm end glødelyskæder og holder også meget længere. Faktisk kan en lyskæde holde i ca. 30.000-70.000 timer – og det betyder, at de vil kunne stå tændt hele døgnet rundt 3 måneder i træk i 14-32 år.

Test lyskæden af inden køb

Der er stor forskel på de forskellige lyskæders farve og intensitet. Du kan se på pakken, om lyset er varmt hvidt, neutralt hvidt eller koldt hvidt og gå efter det lys, der passer dig bedst. Det er dog altid en god idé at se lyskæden tændt, inden du tager et valg.

Træk ikke forlængerledninger ud mellem karme og vinduer/døre

Ledninger kommer meget let i klemme i karme, døre og vinduer, og det kan betyde, at strømførende dele bliver blotlagt. Det kan give stød eller i værste tilfælde forårsage brand. Det er også ulovligt. Du må dog godt føre ledninger, der sidder på lyskæden, ind imellem karme og vinduer/døre. De er nemlig en del tyndere og kan sagtens klare at blive klemt.

Tænk over placeringen

Haven kan lyssættes på forskellige måder ved juletid, f.eks. ved at skabe et lysunivers med blink og lysende nisser eller ved at fremhæve udvalgte træer, buske eller bygningsdetaljer. Det vigtigste at overveje, når du går i gang med at sætte julebelysning op, er at du ikke placerer lyskæderne således, at du lyser direkte ind i naboens stue eller soveværelse – og så er det også bare god stil at undgå lyskæder, der blinker.

Brug en timer

Selvom du bruger LED-lyskæder, så kan du godt ende med en større elregning end du lige regnede med, hvis du bare har lyset tændt hele tiden – og så kan det også være irriterende hele tiden at skulle huske på at tænde og slukke for julebelysningen. Med en timer kan du sørge for at julebelysningen tænder, når det bliver mørkt og slukker op til sengetid, så du ikke forstyrrer naboernes nattesøvn.
